Essay 1-01a: A Letter to Host Family

My name is Mitsuki. I live in Kumamoto prefecture, Japan. I’m nineteen years old, and I go to KGU. I like studying English, but I’m not good at speaking it, so I want to have chances to talk in English with many people. I’m interested in tea ceremony, and I have taken Japanese tea lessons for four years at a tea ceremony club. I learned various ways to make powdered tea. If you are interested in it, I’ll show you Japanese tea ceremony.

My hobby is listening to music. I often listen to Japanese pop music, Korean pop music, and Western music. Recently, I often listen to songs of Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, and so on. I want to listen to songs which are popular in your country. Please tell me them when I come over. I want to know about the culture of your country. Do you know Japanese culture, for example, food, clothing like kimono, and shelter? I hope we can tell each other about own countries.

Recently, I study Japanese food, and I try to make dishes for myself. I can’t still cook dishes well, but I want to be able to make Japanese dishes very well someday. I like to eat various foods, so I want to eat your local foods. I wish to make traditional home cooking in your country with you.

I want to be an English teacher in junior high school in the future, so I will study English very hard when I go to your country. Most Japanese children aren’t good at (or dislike) studying English, so I want to teach them the pleasure of studying English. However, I don’t know the best way to teach English for children. I want to tell them about my experience abroad and many children may be interested in studying English. I’m looking forward to seeing you and to learn many things!
